Keeping
the ring

I've
been seeing a woman for a few months now and we've become very
close. We love each other dearly. She's started divorce
proceedings with her
husband, I know their marriage has been dead for many months now, so
am secure in that knowledge. She's recently asked me if I'd mind if
she wears her
(extremely expensive) engagement ring, for the fact that she likes
it very much.
I said that I didn't mind. Having thought it about it though I find
it a bit
strange to have my lover wear something that signifies so much about
her previous life. Am I just being jealous, or does the fact that
she wants to wear it as a piece of jewellery only mean nothing more
than she finds it aesthetically
pleasing

Your
question is intriguing. It is understandable that you feel uneasy
about her continuing to wear an engagement ring given to her by her
former partner. It is also very strange that she should want to wear
it.
Ethically, and possibly legally, it is not her ring but her partner's
and she should return it when they divorce.
Why did you say
you did not mind if she wore it? Were you just saying what you thought
she wanted to hear? Were you simply trying to please her? Were you
uncertain how you felt about it?
Whatever the
reason, perhaps you should now tell her how you really feel. |
